THE WAY OF ALL FLESH SAMUEL BUTLER

THE WAY OF ALL FLESH SAMUEL BUTLER

The Way of All Flesh (1903) is a semi-autobiographical novel by Samuel Butler which attacks Victorian-era hypocrisy. Written between 1873 and 1884, it traces four generations of the Pontifex family. Butler dared not publish it during his lifetime, but when it was published it was accepted as part of the general reaction against Victorianism.

In 1998, the Modern Library ranked The Way of All Flesh twelfth on its list of the 100 best English-language novels of the 20th century.

Google Chrome On Its Way To iOS

Google Chrome On Its Way To iOS

Its seems that Googles Chrome isnt just making its way over to Android, an iOS version will be available as well. The new app will arrive for iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch users and will introduce elements such as incognito browsing, syncing and tabbed browsing. More than likely there might be a few changes from the Android version, but more than likely these changes have more to do with integration into the Android platform, after all, Apples app rules make it clear that Google cant use its own WebKit rendering engine tweaks or change the default browser in any way.

We do know that syncing will work, and will allow browser settings across multiple devices when theyre signed in using their Google credentials. What this means is that you can start browsing in Windows, open a few tabs and then log into Chrome on your iDevice. When you start Chrome all the same tabs will be open and ready.

Beyond the announcement of Chrome, it seems that Googles Drive storage, which allows storage and sharing of documents, will also now work with iOS. By adding Chrome and Drive to iOS, Google hopes to create a more uniform experience for all Google web apps and features across all platforms from Windows to OSX and iOS, and of course Android.

While it isnt out yet, it sounds like Chrome will arrive sometime later today.

THE WAY OF THE BOW

THE WAY OF THE BOW

From the best selling author Paulo Coelho, the man behind the The Alchemist and Veronika Decides to Die comes yet another soulful story published last 2008.

Unlike his other works, Coelhos writing here was surprisingly Japanese in style - similar to a master giving advice to an apprentice. He showed a deep knowledge about archery (including its technical aspect), and used it as a metaphor to convey teachings on work, overcoming difficulties, steadfastness and courage to take risky decisions.

The story might be brief, it will only take you about an hour and a half to go through it cover to cover, but the teachings it instills can be kept for a lifetime. The Way of The Bow is essentially a small book filled with great nuggets of wisdom. It  relates the story of Tetsuya, the best archer of the country, who conveys his teachings to a boy in his village. Using the metaphor of archery the author leads us through several essential thoughts : our daily efforts and work, how to overcome difficulties, steadfastness, and courage to take risky decisions.

App of the week Nokia Interactive Rich Reading A new way to learn Symbian 3

App of the week Nokia Interactive Rich Reading A new way to learn Symbian 3

The staff of the Nokia Research Center worked in collaboration with Sesame Workshop (creators of the show Sesame Street ) to create an interactive reading experience through mobile phones, the

Nokia Interactive Rich Reading.

The first book is called "100 Day School." It is a childrens story in which Elmo (mascot of the former hit series) talk with the children while they exercise reading. The idea is that the character Elmo will help children to engage them in the book, asking questions about each page and encouraging small to talk about what they are reading.
According to NRC researchers, children who speak more about the book during the reading experience, can improve their vocabulary. They also say that the dynamic works best when parents read with their children, to encourage the habit.
This first book is available in English only. And as technology takes advantage of all this app can be a great opportunity for children who are learning another language, besides enriching the reading experience, parents and children can interact more.
Read with your kids and tell me, what you think! The more people like it, more books will be published.

To download the "Nokia Interective Rich Reading" visit Nokia Beta Labs.
